The Centenary men's golf team during the West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club
The Centenary men’s golf team is currently positioned fifth in the West Region Invitational at Berry Creek Country Club. With a total score of 44-over par 620, they are set for an exciting final round. Facing tough competition, including rivals like Southwestern University and Trinity University, every stroke matters. The team is showcasing strong individual performances, particularly from Aubrey Snell and Andrew Bennett, as they aim to improve their standings in this prestigious tournament.
Georgetown, Texas – The excitement is palpable as the Centenary men’s golf team gears up for the final round of the West Region Invitational at the stunning Berry Creek Country Club. Currently sitting in fifth place with a total score of 44-over par 620, the team had a solid first round and is looking to make a strong finish!
In this highly competitive field, Centenary faces off against several impressive universities including the host Southwestern University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Trinity University, The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and The University of Northwestern-St. Paul. With a par 72 course measuring a challenging 6,536 yards, every stroke counts!
At the moment, LeTourneau University is leading the pack with an outstanding 4-under par 572, while Trinity University is trailing by six shots at 2-over par 578. In third place is The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 13-over par 589, followed closely by the host team, Southwestern University, at 21-over par 597.
As the tournament progresses, attention is drawn to Carter Code from Trinity University, who remarkably holds the top individual score at 4-under par 140 going into the final round. However, Centenary’s team is also showing off some strong individual performances!
Aubrey Snell, a sophomore from Shreveport, La., and senior Andrew Bennett from Bossier City, La. are both tied for 26th place at 10-over par 154. Snell finished his rounds with scores of 78-76, while Bennett improved his score from a first-round 81 to 73 in the second round.
Freshman Ryder Briggs from Blanchard, La. and junior Jeffrey Borchert from Katy, Texas are not far behind, tied at 30th with a score of 12-over par 156. Both players delivered consistent rounds of 77-79.
Junior Colton Mayer is currently in 51st place with a score of 33-over par 177 after rounds of 92-85.
This year marks the Centenary men’s golf team‘s second appearance in the West Regional. They previously competed two seasons ago, where they finished eighth. Bennett, who is now showing great form, tied for 26th back then at 21-over par 237 while Borchert ended up in 32nd place with scores of 23-over par 239.
As the anticipation builds, the final 18 holes will kick off on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.. The Centenary men’s golf team is poised to make a move and improve their standings. With the competition still fierce, every stroke will be crucial in determining the final outcome. Fans and supporters can look forward to exciting golf as the team aims to showcase their talents on this challenging course.
