Shreveport, Louisiana – Exciting times are buzzing around the Centenary College campus as the Centenary Ladies softball team has just wrapped up a fabulous three-game series sweep against the University of Dallas (UD) Crusaders. This incredible performance not only showcased their talent but also added a shiny new chapter to what has already become a thrilling season!
In the final showdown held at the UD Softball Facility, Centenary clinched a solid 6-2 victory over Dallas, sealing the deal on a weekend filled with high energy and impressive plays. With this win, the Ladies happily improve their record to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. Spectators couldn’t have asked for a better display of skill and teamwork!
The action-packed series started with a doubleheader on Saturday, where Centenary showcased their fierceness by defeating the Crusaders 3-0 in game one and dominating game two with a score of 9-1 in just five innings. The sweep against the University of Dallas marks the Ladies’ longest winning streak since March 16-24, 2019. They are definitely on a roll!
As if that wasn’t enough to cheer about, the Centenary Ladies have also surpassed last season’s overall and conference wins total, and guess what? There are still 14 games remaining, with a whopping 12 of those being league contests. That leaves plenty of opportunities for more wins and for establishing even higher benchmarks!
During the series sweep, sophomore sensation Abby Touchet stood out, contributing a fabulous home run that fired up the team and the crowd. Additionally, let’s not forget about senior pitcher Emma Shepherd, who has made history by setting a record for the most strikeouts in a game with a stunning 14 strikeouts during one of the games. This is the highest number achieved by a Centenary pitcher in the Division III era, and what a phenomenal achievement it is!
