The Centenary women’s golf team sits in fifth place after the opening round of the West Region Invitational in Georgetown, Texas. It’s an exciting time for the Centenary women’s golf team as they find themselves in fifth place after completing their first day at the West Region Invitational, hosted by Southwestern University. The tournament is taking place at the picturesque Berry Creek Country Club, a par 72, 5,617-yard layout nestled in the charming Georgetown, Texas. The team shot a total of 79-over par 367 during the opening round, showing a lot of promise for the final round tomorrow.
As they head into the final 18 holes on Tuesday, the Centenary Ladies will be looking to climb the rankings. They currently sit behind some strong competition, including the host team, Southwestern University Pirates, who are perched in second place with a score of 38-over par 326. Meanwhile, the University of Texas at Dallas holds the third position at 40-over par 328, and Northwestern-St. Paul follows in fourth place with a score of 71-over par 359.
Leading the pack is Trinity University, showcasing an impressive score of 17-over par 305, which is a remarkable 21 strokes ahead of the host Pirates. Among the individual competitors, Trinity’s Jessica Mason has taken the top position with her 1-over par 73 performance, setting a tough challenge for the other golfers.
For Centenary, freshman Haylee Crowder from Haughton, Louisiana, turned in a solid performance, leading the Ladies with her score of 13-over par 85. This outstanding effort has placed her tied for 11th place overall. Fellow teammate freshman Amber Shaw from Hughes Springs, Texas, along with sophomore Mya Thompson from South Jordan, Utah, are both in the mix, currently tied for 21st place with a score of 20-over par 92. Sophomore Jordyn Templeton from Columbus, Texas, has also contributed to the team effort, scoring 26-over par 98 and occupying the 27th position.
As the Centenary Ladies prepare for the final round, they’ll be teeing off bright and early at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The team is eager to improve their score and possibly climb up the leaderboard.
