A bright future: The new Costco store and CelLink facility are set to boost Georgetown's economy.
Georgetown is set to transform with the arrival of Costco and a new manufacturing facility from CelLink, promising economic growth and job creation. The city council approved a $4.4 million incentive for Costco to establish a new store, while also clearing $10.5 million for infrastructure at NorthPark35 business park. CelLink’s facility is projected to create up to 2,000 jobs. These developments are expected to boost local shopping and employment opportunities, making Georgetown a more attractive destination.
Big changes are coming to the charming city of Georgetown! On March 19, 2025, the Georgetown City Council made some noteworthy decisions that are sure to put a smile on the faces of local residents looking for more shopping options and job opportunities.
First on the agenda was an enticing incentive deal worth $4.4 million aimed at luring a shiny new Costco store to Georgetown. With an estimated cost of $20 million, residents can expect to see a huge box store take root at the northwest corner of Lakeway Drive and Interstate 35. This substantial project is projected to create around 235 jobs once it’s up and running.
The council voted 5-1 in favor, excited about the potential increase in sales tax revenue by attracting shoppers from surrounding areas. Local leaders believe that the new store will garner attention from folks in Temple, Killeen, and even Fort Hood, enhancing Georgetown’s status as a shopping destination.
A significant part of the $4.4 million incentive package includes a $2 million sales tax rebate for Costco itself. The council believes that this investment will result in over $11 million in revenue for the city over the next decade. However, not everyone is fully on board; some members voiced their concerns about the potential impacts on local businesses and the fairness of giving large retailers tax breaks.
City officials, however, argue that Costco could easily choose other locations, but they hope that with a boost in local spending, the city’s economy can thrive. It’s a classic case of balancing the love for local shops while eyeing the shiny allure of big-box retail.
In another exciting move, the council also greenlit $10.5 million for infrastructure improvements at the NorthPark35 business park. Spanning a whopping 146 acres along Interstate 35 and Texas 130, this project promises to be a hub of economic activity.
The improvements will see an infusion of $8 million for road construction, helping facilitate access and growth in the area. Leading the charge is Titan Development Real Estate, which has already begun constructing the first phase of this business park, featuring two buildings that will total over 330,000 square feet and an extension of Aviation Drive.
That’s not all! Georgetown is also set to welcome a magnificent $130 million manufacturing facility from CelLink, a California-based technology company. This venture is particularly thrilling because it promises to create between 800 and 2,000 jobs over time, greatly enriching the local employment landscape.
CelLink specializes in manufacturing circuits for electric vehicles, marking a shift from its prior focus on solar panel wiring. The new facility will be positioned in the Gateway35 Commerce Center and is expected to be completed by June 2025.
The Georgetown and Williamson County governments have collaborated with CelLink to offer a combined total of approximately $8 million in tax incentives. These agreements, spanning 10 years, provide substantial tax abatements while requiring CelLink to create jobs and engage with the local community, such as providing internships for students in the Georgetown Independent School District.
As Georgetown gears up for these transformative projects, residents can look forward to an expanded business landscape brimming with job opportunities and new shopping experiences. With major organizations making their mark in the area, Georgetown is certainly on the rise!
