Georgetown ISD Secures $649.5 Million Bond for Growth and Modernization

Georgetown Independent School District Celebrates Passage of Major Bond Election

Georgetown, Texas – On May 4, the Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) announced that the community has shown strong support for a significant bond election. Voters approved a substantial package worth $649.5 million aimed at addressing critical needs within the district.

Dr. Devin Padavil, Superintendent of Schools for Georgetown ISD, expressed his gratitude to community members for their backing. “The passage of all four propositions of the 2024 Bond reflects our community’s commitment to our students’ success,” he stated. “This crucial funding puts us in a good position to manage our growth and provide our students with the resources they need for growth and achievement.”

Understanding the Bond Propositions

The bond package consists of four propositions, each targeting specific areas crucial for the district’s expansion and modernization:

  • Proposition A: Approved by 70% of voters, this segment focuses on constructing a new high school, a middle school, and an elementary school, alongside renovating the existing Benold Middle School to become the new Frost Elementary. It also allocates funds for updating safety and security infrastructure, purchasing new buses, and making necessary repairs.
  • Proposition B: This proposal received 67% approval to enhance technology infrastructure and acquire new equipment, addressing outdated technology currently in use.
  • Proposition C: With 63% of votes in favor, this proposition targets improving fine arts facilities across the district, including plans for a new performing arts facility at East View High School and necessary updates to existing equipment and spaces at Georgetown High School.
  • Proposition D: Lastly, this proposition, which gained 61% approval, focuses on repairing the track at Georgetown High School while renovating and expanding the field house and locker room facilities at East View High School.

Community Engagement and Transparency

Throughout the bond campaign, Dr. Padavil emphasized transparency and community involvement. He held several meetings with community members, local business leaders, and civic organizations to discuss the district’s pressing needs and shared how this bond could transform educational opportunities for students.

“Ultimately, this is the community’s bond,” Dr. Padavil noted. “Many local members, including our Citizens Advisory Committee, helped shape the projects that were presented to voters. Their feedback ensured that the proposals addressed the most critical needs impacting student learning and progress.”

Future Developments

With the successful passage of the 2024 Bond, GISD is eager to begin work on the approved projects. Planning and design processes will commence soon, with construction expected to start as early as this fall. The anticipated timeline suggests that these new educational facilities could open their doors within the next two to four years.

Community members are encouraged to stay informed about the progress of the bond projects through GISD’s website, where regular updates will be provided, along with information shared at stakeholder and school board meetings.

The community’s decisive action on May 4 signals a shared vision for the future of education in Georgetown. With the bond approval, Georgetown ISD hopes to enhance the learning environment, ensuring that students receive the benefits of upgraded facilities and resources.
