Georgetown Offers Free Christmas Tree Recycling for a Greener Start to the New Year

The holidays have come and gone, and now that we are well into January, it’s time to tackle that old Christmas tree! If you’re a Georgetown resident wondering what to do with your unflocked Christmas tree, look no further. Your city is stepping up to help you dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way.

Free Recycling Program for Trees and Decorations

From December 26 through January 31, residents can take advantage of a free recycling program offered by Texas Disposal Systems (TDS). It’s easy! Simply drop off your unflocked Christmas trees and other organic holiday decorations at designated locations around the city. Not only does this help clear your space, but it also supports efforts in composting and sustainable gardening.

What Can You Drop Off?

Wondering what’s on the acceptance list? TDS is happy to accept:

  • Unflocked Christmas trees
  • Holly
  • Pumpkins
  • Other living holiday decorations

If your items are natural and organic, they’re most likely good to go! However, do keep in mind that artificial or fake trees cannot be recycled through this initiative.

Main Drop-off Location

The main drop-off point is at TDS & Garden-Ville Georgetown, located at 250 W.L. Walden Dr. This is the place where you can bring your organic decorations for recycling during their operating hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday: Closed

In addition to the main site, there are five more drop-off locations scattered across the Central Texas region, making it convenient for everyone!

Turning Trees into Treasure

After the trees and organic decor are collected, they will be taken to TDS’ facility where they undergo a transformation into organic mulch and compost. Talk about a fantastic way to give your holiday spirit a second life! These products will be available for purchase at Garden-Ville stores throughout Central Texas, catering to gardening enthusiasts who appreciate sustainable options.

Embracing Sustainability

This holiday recycling initiative is a prime example of TDS’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. By recycling and composting, residents are helping to create a greener community, paving the way for better practices in waste management.

Need More Information?

If you’re curious to find out more about other drop-off locations or have questions regarding accepted items, it’s simple! Visit TDS’s website or reach out to their customer service. They are more than happy to assist you with any inquiries you may have.
