Georgetown residents can recycle their Christmas trees and organic holiday decorations for free from December 26 to January 31. Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) offers drop-off locations for unflocked trees, holly, pumpkins, and more, turning them into useful mulch and compost for local gardeners. Additional recycling options include curbside pick-up and string-light recycling. The community is encouraged to participate and help reduce landfill waste while benefiting from sustainable gardening products.
As the holiday season comes to a close, residents in Georgetown and the surrounding areas can once again take part in a convenient and eco-friendly tradition offered by Texas Disposal Systems (TDS). From December 26 through January 31, TDS will be providing a fantastic opportunity for the community to recycle their Christmas trees and other organic holiday decorations at no cost!
If you have an unflocked Christmas tree or any organic decorations such as holly, pumpkins, or other living decor, you’re in luck! These items can be dropped off at the TDS & Garden-Ville Georgetown, conveniently located at 250 W.L. Walden Dr. But that’s not the only place! There are five additional drop-off locations scattered throughout Central Texas, making it easy and accessible for everyone.
The collected trees and decorations will be taken to TDS’ facility, where they will be transformed into high-quality organic mulch and compost. This process not only helps reduce waste but also creates useful products that local gardeners can use to enhance their green spaces. The finished mulch and compost are available for purchase at various Garden-Ville stores throughout Central Texas, which specialize in sustainable gardening products.
Here’s what you need to know about participating in this fabulous recycling program:
However, please note that artificial Christmas trees are not accepted for recycling in this program.
If you plan to drop off your items, be sure to visit during TDS & Garden-Ville Georgetown’s operating hours. They are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
If you’re using curbside pick-up, make sure your tree is uncut (if it’s seven feet or shorter) and is free from all decorations. The pick-up for trees aligns with your recycling schedule, ensuring a smooth collection process.
When it comes to wrapping paper, residents can recycle cardboard boxes and plain wrapping paper, but remember that decorated wrapping paper, foil, ribbons, and bows don’t belong in the recycling bin. For extra cardboard boxes and wrapping paper, simply place them next to your full recycling carts for collection.
Recycled Christmas trees will not go to waste. They’ll be transformed into mulch that will be available year-round for residents of the City at no cost.
For all the details on recycling locations, accepted items, and other recycling programs available this season, residents can visit the TDS website or the City of Georgetown’s site to stay informed.
This holiday season, make sure to take advantage of these wonderful recycling programs. Not only will you lighten the load on landfill waste, but you’ll also be helping out Mother Earth!
