Georgetown Welcomes New Gifted and Talented School
In Georgetown, a new private school for gifted and talented students, known as GT School, is set to open in August 2025. Located at 2351 Westinghouse Road, the school aims to provide a unique educational experience for students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Revolutionary Learning Approach
GT School will utilize an AI-powered, two-hour learning model developed by educator MacKenzie Price. According to Tim Eyerman, the Head of School, this innovative approach allows for individualized learning, catering to the needs of high-achieving students who may find traditional schools unchallenging. “We want our students, by the time they’re in eighth grade, to be finished with their high school curriculum—if they start with us in kindergarten,” Eyerman stated. He emphasized the school’s goal is for students to progress at twice the speed of typical educational timelines.
Qualifications for Enrollment
While Eyerman acknowledges that IQ tests may not fully capture a student’s intelligence, prospective students must still demonstrate proficiency through testing. “To be qualified as gifted and talented, there are typically three subcategories: mathematical, verbal, and nonverbal,” he explained. A student must score in the 90th percentile across these areas to gain admission.
A Boost to Individualized Learning
One of the school’s primary objectives is to eliminate the common practice of “teaching to the middle”. Eyerman pointed out that in traditional classes of 25 students, often less than half receive appropriately challenging materials. As a solution, GT School will employ guides instead of conventional teachers to inspire and motivate students. These guides, who may come from various backgrounds such as coaching or business, will assist approximately 10 to 12 students each. “It’s someone who’s really in tune and involved and knows their students better than anyone,” Eyerman said, highlighting the unique role of school guides.
Life Skills Workshops
After the two-hour instruction period, students will transition to life skill workshops, where they will engage in practical activities designed to prepare them for the future. Activities may include robotics projects, creating renewable energy circuits, or building online blogs. “We believe that our school will create a love of learning and develop academic champions all within that two-hour frame,” Eyerman noted.
Enrollment and Tuition Details
GT School has the potential to enroll up to 100 students. However, final enrollment figures have not yet been determined. Tuition for attending the school is approximately $20,000 per year. Eyerman, who has 17 years of experience in education and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Leadership and Innovation, aims to transform the educational landscape for gifted students. “Our approach reflects a significant shift in how education can be designed to meet the needs of exceptional students,” he concluded.
