News Summary

Georgetown Independent School District is expanding to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community. With enrollment projected to rise and new schools being planned, GISD is gearing up for future students. The district is also enhancing transportation with new propane-powered school buses, emphasizing efficiency and environmental care. These developments promise a bright future for families in Georgetown.

Exciting Changes Ahead for Georgetown ISD!

Georgetown, Texas, is buzzing with excitement as the Georgetown Independent School District (GISD) makes big plans to accommodate the city’s rapid growth. With Georgetown being one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation, it’s clear that the school district is preparing for an influx of new students and families.

Rising Enrollment and Population Trends

Just to put it into perspective, the number of students enrolled in Georgetown ISD is projected to rise from 13,743 to 13,920. That’s not a small bump; that’s a leap in the number of young minds ready to learn! And it’s not just the schools that are getting busier. Georgetown’s population has seen a remarkable increase, soaring from over 86,000 in 2022 to more than 96,000 in 2023. This reflects an impressive rise of 11% in just one year!

New Schools on the Horizon

In response to this growth, the district is rolling up its sleeves and planning for several new schools to be built. Among the exciting developments, an additional high school is set to open its doors in 2028, alongside a new middle school and elementary school, both scheduled for Fall 2026. The upcoming high school is expected to hold around 2,200 students, providing ample space for the growing community.

A Look at the Housing Market

It’s also interesting to note that Georgetown’s average home price is currently around $433,000. This figure is significantly lower compared to Austin’s average price of $515,000. Plus, the good news continues as home prices have actually dropped by over 3% compared to last year, making Georgetown a more appealing option for families considering a move.

Environmentally Friendly Transportation

Additionally, GISD is receiving a generous $240,000 grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to purchase two propane-powered school buses. These shiny new buses are set to replace two older diesel-powered buses from 2006. This switch not only enhances the fleet’s efficiency but also helps improve the air quality around our schools, which is a win for everyone, especially our kids!

Budget Breakdown for the New Buses

The total cost for each new propane-powered bus is approximately $164,000. Thankfully, most of this expense will be covered by the grant, leaving the district to handle just over $88,000. This funding is part of a broader initiative to support schools in replacing or retrofitting their older diesel buses with cleaner and more environmentally friendly options.

A Bright Future Ahead

With all these exciting developments on the horizon, it’s an exhilarating time to be involved in the Georgetown community. Families can look forward to improved facilities, better transportation, and a vibrant school experience as Georgetown ISD continues to adapt to the growing needs of its residents.

Stay tuned to find out more about what Georgetown ISD has in store and how these changes will impact students and families in the area. Exciting times are ahead!
