What a thrilling day for basketball fans right here in Augusta! On February 17, 2025, our home teams went head-to-head with Lander University in an exciting showdown that left spectators on the edge of their seats. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams delivered spectacular performances that are definitely worth a recap!
The men’s basketball team had quite the battle against Lander University. With a nail-biting final score of 76-73, the Jaguars secured a much-deserved victory that improved their overall record to an impressive 17-7. As for their Peach Belt Conference record, they now stand strong at 11-3. After this game, Lander’s record fell to 14-10 and 8-6 in the conference, making it a day of ups and downs!
This game was anything but predictable, featuring a whirlwind of lead changes and a tie score that occurred not once, not twice, but six times. At halftime, the Jaguars held a slight edge with a score of 34-31, setting the stage for a dramatic second half.
All eyes were on Demitri Gardner, who came through with a sensational performance. Gardner not only scored 23 points but also shone in clutch situations, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line! He also contributed with two rebounds and two assists, proving to be a true playmaker on the court. But Gardner wasn’t alone in his efforts!
Max Amadasun also made a heartfelt contribution with 16 points alongside eight rebounds and two solid blocks. John St. Germain III was on fire as well, adding another 13 points and six assists to the Jaguars’ score. And let’s not forget about Elias Palsson, who came off the bench with a strong outing, putting up 15 points and hitting three three-pointers!
The Jaguars’ free-throw shooting was critical; they finished an impressive 18-of-20 from the foul line! As the clock ticked down, it was Gardner and St. Germain III who stepped up when it mattered most to secure the win.
In the paint, Augusta really flexed its muscles, outscoring Lander 28-16. The defense was impressive as well, forcing 14 turnovers and generating 12 points from these mistakes!
Another highlight of the women’s game was their free-throw proficiency, finishing with a stellar 21 of 25 (that’s a whopping 84%!). Defensively, they held Lander to just two successful three-pointers and forced a staggering 19 turnovers.
But the action doesn’t stop there, as both teams will be facing Lander University again on February 19, 2025! Tip-off for the women’s game is set for 5:30 PM, followed by the men’s game at 7:30 PM. Make sure to mark your calendars because the excitement is far from over!
