In the heart of Leander, Texas, excitement was in the air as the Leander Independent School District (ISD) celebrated the grand opening of its 30th elementary school. The new school, named Donald Lewis Hisle Elementary School, officially kicked off with a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday that brought together district officials, staff, and families to mark this important milestone.
This new institution is named in honor of Donald Lewis Hisle, who impressively served 23 years on the Leander ISD school board. He earned recognition as the 12th-longest serving school board member in Texas history. His passion for education and love for the community left a lasting impact, and his legacy continues through this new school.
“He just loved it,” shared Hisle’s daughter, Nicole Hisle. “He never met a stranger, and he just enjoyed being around the kids.” It’s clear that Donald’s legacy geared towards educators and students alike shaped the essence of the school and the spirit of the event.
Families filled the school grounds, participating in a range of interactive activities that highlighted the spirit of community. The atmosphere buzzed with joy as children engaged in games, parents mingled, and teachers exchanged ideas on how best to support their new students. This event was not only a celebration of the school itself but also a tribute to the commitment shown by Donald Hisle throughout his years of service.
Nicole reflected on what her father would think of the event, saying, “Daddy was so humble, and he would always say, ‘Oh, it’s no big deal’, but I know deep down in his heart, he would just be smiling ear to ear.” She believes he would have been enthusiastic, shaking hands and welcoming guests with that familiar warmth that meant so much to everyone.
The Hisle family expressed their deep pride in having Donald’s legacy continue with the students and staff of the new school. “I know my dad would be beyond proud of this accomplishment,” Nicole stated. “By any means, he wasn’t out for the accolades. It just was his true heart in wanting to help the kids get the best that they could.”
Nicole also took a moment to highlight the school’s innovative design, which includes features that promote community and collaboration among students. The goal was not only to create a learning environment but also to foster connections that are vital in a community-based educational setting.
The opening of Donald Lewis Hisle Elementary represents more than just a new building; it’s a symbol of commitment to education and the values that Donald Hisle stood for. As the newest addition to Leander ISD, it promises to be a place where children can thrive and where community bonds can be strengthened. With a strong tribute to a beloved leader, it’s clear that this school will create many cherished memories for families in the years to come.
As Leander ISD embarks on this new journey with Donald Lewis Hisle Elementary at the forefront, the excitement and pride felt throughout the community promise a bright future for the students. Here’s to many successful years ahead!
