Emergency services respond to a multi-vehicle crash on I-35 in Pflugerville during the early morning hours.
A chaotic seven-vehicle crash on I-35 early Sunday morning left Pflugerville in shock. Emergency responders acted quickly, rescuing trapped victims and transporting those injured to hospitals. A subsequent incident involving 18-wheelers added to the mayhem, prompting traffic diversions. Investigations are underway as officials focus on ensuring road safety and improving traveler awareness.
In Pflugerville, things got a little chaotic early Sunday morning when a ⬆️ seven-vehicle mess unfolded on the busy I-35! At around 1:30 a.m. in the 15200 block, drivers were caught off guard as the vehicles collided, sending shockwaves through the local community.
When every second counts, the dedicated Travis County Emergency Services District No. 2 sprang into action. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene, ready to act and assist those involved. One unfortunate individual found themselves trapped in their vehicle, but thanks to the quick thinking of the firefighters, a safe extraction took place amid the chaos.
As a result of this massive crash, five people were taken to nearby hospitals to get the medical attention they needed. Thankfully, there were several other individuals who were evaluated for injuries but decided against going to the hospital. Every minor detail counts during such unexpected circumstances!
But the drama didn’t end there. Just a few hours later, another incident involving multiple 18-wheelers erupted on I-35 near Grand Avenue Parkway. Reported at 11:56 p.m. on the same night, this separate crash injured three more individuals and further complicated travel plans for those trying to navigate the busy interstate.
Traffic on I-35 came to a standstill as the accident effectively blocked all the main lanes and both shoulders! This left many travelers scrambling to find alternative routes. Crews worked tirelessly to clear the debris from both accidents, ensuring the road could reopen as soon as possible. In a sign of relief for stranded motorists, the southbound lanes of I-35 finally reopened around 10 a.m. the following morning!
In this latest pile-up, two of the injured victims were whisked away to hospitals by ESD No. 2 ambulances. A third individual needed a bit more support and was transported by a STAR Flight helicopter—highlighting how critical air transportation can be in times of dire need.
As the dust settles, it’s clear that investigations into these incidents are not just a formality; they are essential to ensure the safety and well-being of all who share the road. The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently digging deep into the causes behind the accidents. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert and proceed with caution, especially on busy highways.
Due to the road blockages caused by the crashes, traffic was diverted onto McNeil Road in Round Rock temporarily. For both residents and visitors, this is a crucial reminder that travel can be unpredictable, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the road and have a backup route in mind.
So, while Pflugerville manages to recover from a chaotic weekend, the community remains grateful for the first responders who rushed to the rescue and the ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of its roads. Stay safe out there, and remember to be alert!
