In the heart of Pflugerville, a lovely tradition is brightening the holiday season for many families. For the eighth year in a row, local businesses are rolling up their sleeves, joining hands and coming together to lighten the load for Central Texas families in need. This wonderful collaboration is all about giving back and spreading some joy during what can often be a challenging time of year.
This year, generous donations have poured in from a variety of local businesses, who have come together to provide gifts, gift cards, and everyday essentials to help alleviate the financial stress that many families face. The participating local favorites include Bodies by Design, Opal Movement Therapy, Rabadi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Muay Thai, and Julio Monagas of Realty of America. These businesses are making a noteworthy impact on the community by partnering with Communities in Schools of Central Texas’ Care Coordination program, which identifies families with urgent needs.
Those involved are overjoyed by the outpouring of support from the community. For example, the owner of Bodies by Design is incredibly thankful for the contributions from clients, with over $1,000 in gift cards being collected. One family’s holiday dreams were made true thanks to the initiative, which fulfilled their wishes and brought smiles to a family of seven children.
Meanwhile, folks at Rabadi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Muay Thai stepped up in a big way, raising a whopping $1,500 in gift cards for a family headed by a single mother with two young children. It’s heartwarming to see that this initiative not only supports families, but it also builds a tight-knit community where everyone is looking out for one another.
Opal Movement Therapy also brought the spirit of giving with a special focus on a family of four kids who recently transitioned from homelessness. They were gifted clothes, toys, and household essentials, reminding us all that there’s always room to make a difference.
The Care Coordination program is essential as it shifts focus on fulfilling holiday wishes and providing necessary supplies. Essential items like groceries and hygiene products are also on the priority list. The appreciation expressed by the program coordinators underscores how much community support matters, crafting a safety net for families who might be struggling.
This year brought a unique challenge with the increase in families needing assistance. The astonishing rise in the number of students qualifying for Project Hope, which provides resources for students experiencing unstable housing, from 150-200 pre-pandemic to almost 500 now, speaks volumes. The traditional nonprofit reserves in Pflugerville are feeling the strain as the demand for food, housing, and basic needs continues to grow.
With wishes ranging from electric scooters and iPads to basic clothing and heartfelt aspirations, the support for students is more crucial than ever. The local community is urged to sustain this spirit of generosity all year long. They can do this by contributing to Project Hope with donations or forming partnerships to address varying needs, from food cards to graduation expenses.
A separate, uplifting note came from a local family who faced a setback when their festive yard decorations were stolen. Thanks to the quick actions of the police department, the family received a thoughtful gift card to help replace their decorations, showcasing the heartwarming support for families in Pflugerville.
This holiday season, Pflugerville is shining bright with community love and generosity. It’s a beautiful reminder that together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
