GEORGETOWN, Texas – Excitement is in the air as the beloved nonprofit, Ride On Center for Kids (ROCK), takes center stage in a brand-new documentary that highlights the amazing world of horse therapy. For nearly two decades, this remarkable center has been the life’s work of founder Nancy Krenek, who has dedicated herself to showing the profound impact that therapy involving these majestic animals can have on people’s lives.
“The research here has shown it lowers anxiety, it lowers PTSD, and increases quality of life,” Krenek shared passionately. Her commitment to the cause is evident, and the documentary, titled “Where the Horses Heal the Soul,” captures the essence of what ROCK stands for.
It’s a journey that Krenek admits she’s still trying to understand. “The movie kind of has a life of its own. It has gone out and spoken to people,” she reflected. What began as a personal mission has transformed into an inspiring narrative that resonates with many.
The documentary began taking shape with the vision of Twila Labar, who first connected with horse therapy five years ago. As the director and producer, Labar poured her heart into this film, saying, “This type of film and the stories here at ROCK are really pulling on my heartstrings.” Labar’s dedication shows through in every scene that captures the impactful moments between horses and their human friends.
Starting in 2019, Labar followed the stories of several individuals who have found solace and strength at ROCK. Among them is a young girl named Hunter, who lives with cerebral palsy. Labar shared, “Just to see how she’s empowered to chase her dreams and do things that people would never imagine she could do, it just blows my mind.” These stories are more than just inspiring; they remind us of the incredible potential each person holds, especially when supported by the gentle nature of horses.
The mission of the documentary is clear: to spread awareness about the healing powers of horse therapy. “We are just trying to get the word out that horses are these magnificent beings made by God that can really touch people’s souls,” Krenek emphasized. It’s all about connecting with more individuals who may benefit from this unique form of therapy.
Both Krenek and Labar hope that the film leaves viewers with a profound sense of hope. “If you’re living and breathing, we are here for a purpose, and that’s what this film is all about,” said Labar. Krenek added, “I would hope and pray that people, whether they come on a tour at ROCK or they see the documentary or even the trailer, they recognize that there’s hope.”
The documentary has already made waves in the film circuit. After its big premiere, it won multiple awards, including the prestigious Best Hour-Long USA Documentary at the Equus Film Festival in Albuquerque, New Mexico. And it doesn’t stop there! The film is screening again on Monday at the Palace Theatre in Georgetown at 6:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online, so don’t miss out!
For those who can’t attend the screening, worry not! The film is set to make its way to platforms like Amazon and Apple TV soon. Get ready to experience this heartfelt documentary that not only showcases the incredible stories at ROCK but also ignites hope in the hearts of all who watch.
So mark your calendars, grab your tickets, and prepare to be inspired by the healing journey of the horses and their amazing human friends!
