Round Rock Chamber of Commerce Engages Local Entrepreneurs to Drive Business Growth

Round Rock Explores New Avenues for Business Growth

Round Rock, Texas, is buzzing with excitement as leaders in the local business community come together to discuss innovative ways to foster growth among start-ups, scale-ups, and small businesses. It’s been eight years since a group of MBA students from Texas State University looked into how Round Rock could attract more businesses to its vibrant scene. Now, the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce is stepping in to explore the needs of today’s entrepreneurs.

Listening to Local Business Owners

The new study kicked off with a lively town hall meeting held in downtown Round Rock, where business owners from diverse sectors gathered to share their thoughts. Rather than feeling like a formal lecture, the event was an open forum where attendees could voice their ideas on what support would really make a difference in their business journeys. Lauren Postler, a consultant recruited by the Chamber, emphasized the importance of directly engaging with local entrepreneurs.

“It’s not enough for us to do a literature review or look up what we can find online. We wanted to hear from the individuals themselves,” Postler explained. The goal is clear: to identify what resources and guidance local businesses need to thrive in today’s competitive environment.

Utilizing Industry Partnerships

Round Rock is already home to significant players like Dell, Army Futures Command, and a new Life Sciences Innovation Hub that’s set to open at the Texas State University Round Rock campus. These partnerships provide a strong foundation for new businesses, but the Chamber’s study aims to identify even more opportunities for collaboration and support.

Spotlighting Unique Challenges

In an inspiring example of local initiative, Marsha Stephanson, an Air Force veteran and entrepreneur, shared her story as a “parent-preneur.” After recognizing a gap in resources for women dealing with postpartum depression, she founded Cater to Mom, a subscription box service designed to support mothers during this challenging period.

Stephanson’s journey wasn’t easy, especially at the beginning. “I didn’t know what was available in the Austin area to start my business,” she said, recalling the challenges she faced. However, with perseverance and the right support, her venture has flourished over the past six years, reaching clients across the United States.

Encouraging Collaboration and Mentorship

At the town hall, Stephanson played a dual role: sharing her experiences and acting as a mentor for other business owners seeking guidance. Participants were split into small groups, allowing them to discuss their needs openly and brainstorm solutions together. “I’m your waiter. I need to hear what you guys need,” she told her small group, fostering an inviting atmosphere for discussion.

Gathering Insights for Future Growth

The Chamber of Commerce is taking this feedback seriously. For the next month, surveys will be distributed to more businesses in the area, aiming to gather broader insights. The end goal? To compile a comprehensive list of actionable steps that can help attract and retain businesses in Round Rock.

As the study unfolds, Round Rock’s entrepreneurial spirit is sure to shine even brighter. With community leaders, local business owners, and innovative thinkers rolling up their sleeves together, the future looks promising for the city’s business landscape.

What’s Next for Round Rock?

Stay tuned as Round Rock continues to forge ahead, nurturing its local businesses and ensuring that the needs of today’s entrepreneurs are met. With initiatives like these, it’s clear that Round Rock is committed to being a welcoming home for innovation and growth.
