Round Rock is excited to announce the nearing completion of several parks and trails projects aimed at enhancing community connectivity and accessibility. Among these, the Heritage Trail West is set to feature a new pedestrian bridge, while Memorial Park and Lake Creek Trail are also receiving significant upgrades. These projects, funded by the 2023 General Obligation Bonds, promise to enrich outdoor spaces for residents and visitors alike, creating a seamless, connected environment for leisure and recreation.
Round Rock is buzzing with excitement as the city works on several fantastic parks and trails projects that are nearing completion. These developments aim to not only beautify the area but also to bring the community together and improve accessibility for everyone.
One of the shining stars of these projects is the Heritage Trail West. This beautiful trail is currently getting some cool additions, including a spiral ramp that will make it easier for pedestrians to access the trail. As if that wasn’t enough, the Heritage Trail West pedestrian bridge is almost ready to welcome visitors, with eye-catching signage already up to guide them. By the summer of 2024, this bridge will be fully completed, making it easier than ever to navigate between the historic “Old Town” and the vibrant “New Town” of Round Rock.
The Heritage Trail West isn’t just about convenience; it’s part of a larger vision to promote connectedness and community spirit. This trail will stretch approximately one mile and link up to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. The project also includes nifty upgrades to local parks, enriching them with historical context and plenty of recreational activities. For nature lovers, there will even be an overlook along Brushy Creek, offering the perfect spot to chill and soak in the great outdoors.
Meanwhile, just east of IH-35, there are more exciting improvements underway. New creek overlooks and gathering spots are being built near Memorial Park, alongside a large spiral trail ramp to enhance the overall experience for visitors and residents alike. It’s all part of making sure everyone in Round Rock has access to beautiful outdoor spaces.
In May 2023, voters gave a thumbs-up for the construction of the Lake Creek Trail, and work is already in progress. This trail will not only feature a handy pedestrian underpass at \b but also a lovely bridge over Lake Creek. These enhancements aim to blend modern amenities with the area’s rich history, ensuring both residents and visitors can enjoy a seamless outdoor experience.
Adding more value to these projects, the Round Rock City Council has greenlit the Lawn at Brushy Creek, a sizable downtown park that spans over 20 acres. This new park will create a direct link from Heritage Trail West to Veterans Park, thanks to a pedestrian bridge. Among the park’s features will be a canoe launch and improvements to over six acres of land near Pecan Avenue and Georgetown Street, all of which comes at a cost of $1.4 million.
As part of these developments, the Town Green project is set to enhance the area surrounding the downtown water tower and the historic Johnson building. This project represents a total investment of $412,000, ensuring the Johnson building remains under city ownership to serve community needs like restrooms and storage for events.
How is all this magic happening? Thanks to the 2023 General Obligation Bonds that were approved by voters and contributions from the city’s General Self-Financed Construction fund, the people of Round Rock can expect significant improvements to their beloved parks and trails.
These exciting changes are not just about making Round Rock beautiful; they are about fostering a sense of community, enhancing accessibility, and providing educational opportunities for both residents and visitors. With recent parklet extensions and renovations of the former library building, the city is clearly committed to creating enjoyable and engaging spaces for everyone. What’s not to love about that?
So mark your calendars and get ready to dive into the best that Round Rock has to offer as these projects continue to take shape!
