Trophy Club Byron Nelson Shines Bright

In case you missed it, the High School On SI’s National Volleyball Champion title has gone to the impressive Trophy Club Byron Nelson team! They showcased extraordinary skills and determination throughout the season, making them a force to be reckoned with. What a fantastic accomplishment for these young athletes!

Nominees for Texas Volleyball Player of the Year

And let’s not forget, voting is now open for the coveted Texas Volleyball Player of the Year award! Fans can cast their votes until Sunday, January 13, at 11:59 p.m. CST. This year, 25 nominees are being celebrated for their exceptional contributions to the game, highlighting the depth and talent present across the state.

Among these nominees, we have a slew of impressive players making waves:

  • Mya Allen from San Antonio Reagan, a senior outside hitter, dominated the court with a jaw-dropping 1,408 kills, 868 digs, and 69 aces over two years. She earned the title of District 27-6A MVP and secured a spot in the AVCA All-American Second Team.
  • Henley Anderson from Dripping Springs, a junior outside hitter, is another standout. With 549 kills, she helped her team to an incredible 46-3 record and was named a First-Team AVCA All-American.
  • Gentry Barker from Lucas Lovejoy showed her prowess as a sophomore outside hitter with 468 kills and was recognized as the District 9-5A MVP as well as being a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American.

Alongside these talented players, we have Takayla Brown of Pflugerville Weiss, who made a name for herself with a school record of 3,834 career assists, and Samara Coleman from Spring Grand Oaks, who racked up an eye-popping 1,658 career kills, clinching recognition as the Texas State Writers Association Class 6A Player of the Year.

Cedar Park and Flour Bluff Make History

The excitement doesn’t stop there! Cedar Park’s volleyball team has advanced to the state finals after an outstanding season, winning an impressive 21 straight matches leading up to the title game. Under the guidance of Coach Lori McLaughlin, the Timberwolves have proven their resilience and teamwork, giving fans a season to remember.

On another exciting note, Flour Bluff High School’s volleyball team has made history too, clinching a spot in the state finals for the very first time! This is a significant milestone, bringing a proud moment for the program and its supporters.

As we gear up for the climax of the season, the state championship matches will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX.
