March 2025 marks a significant boost for Texas as sales tax allocations reach $1.1 billion, reflecting a 10.2% increase from the previous year. Central Texas leads the way with remarkable growth, particularly Bell County. The job market is also thriving, with nearly 28,000 new jobs added. Despite some declines in certain areas, the overall economic outlook is positive, positioning Texas as a leading state for job creation and economic opportunity.
If you’re in Texas, you’re definitely feeling the positive vibes around town! March 2025 has brought some fantastic news for our cities, counties, and special-purpose taxing districts, as they set to receive an impressive $1.1 billion in sales tax allocations. This amount is not just a number; it represents a vibrant 10.2% increase compared to March 2024, showcasing the state’s robust economic growth!
In particular, Central Texas is humming along quite well, seeing some steady economic growth compared to last year. Bell County is on fire, with a remarkable 15.37% increase in sales tax allocations compared to March 2024. It’s a testament to the hard work of local businesses and the engaged community! Meanwhile, Coryell County is also holding its own with a 2.98% increase, adding a little extra cheer to the local economy.
However, it’s not all roses as Milam County is experiencing a bumpy ride, possibly shocking many with a staggering decrease of 51.14% compared to last year. Good news is, out of the 19 incorporated municipalities across the three counties, a whopping 17 saw increases in their sales tax allocations for March year-over-year!
Now, let’s talk about some of the shining stars! Temple took the lead with an outstanding 111% jump in their sales tax allocation, making it the talk of the town! Other notable contenders include Rogers in Bell County, soaring up by 59.17%, Buckholts in Milam County climbing by 22.35%, and Salado in Bell County with a solid increase of 20.62%.
But it’s not all good news in every corner. Belton‘s allocations took a slight hit, dropping by 3.78% down to $648,491. Thorndale also faced a similar situation with a 6.33% decline. Nevertheless, Bell County is still coming out on top with expected allocations of $2.61 million for March, compared to $2.26 million last year. Not to be outdone, Killeen is on track for about $2.64 million, marking an increase of 3.37%.
Not only is the sales tax situation looking up, but Texas is also bustling with job opportunities! January 2025 saw the addition of 27,900 nonfarm jobs, contributing to an incredible total of 187,700 jobs added from January 2024 to January 2025. Talk about an economic boom! The state’s labor force has reached record high levels at 15,750,800 and boasts a solid 1.3% annual job growth rate.
The unemployment rate is currently sitting at 4.1%, matching figures from January 2024, and the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos area shines even brighter with a lower rate of 3.5%.
Governor Abbott is quite pleased with Texas’ position as a leader in job creation, often referring to it as “America’s jobs engine.” His administration is committed to fostering an environment rich in economic opportunity by focusing on words like regulatory barrier reduction, educational enhancement, and providing effective workforce training initiatives.
With all of this growth around Texas, there’s much to be optimistic about! Whether it’s the upswing in sales tax allocations or the flourishing job market, you can feel the energy buzzing throughout our communities. Let’s keep the momentum going and welcome even greater prosperity down the road!
