Recently, the Texas Transportation Commission made waves by approving an eye-popping $104.17 billion investment package for the transportation system, aiming for execution between 2025 and 2034. Residents can have their voices heard by taking part in a survey available on the PBMPO website.
One of the most thrilling projects gaining attention is the Second Causeway project – it’s got everyone buzzing! Pete Sepulveda, the Executive Director of the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, believes this initiative could usher in billions in investment, and community engagement in earlier hearings has been robust, indicating strong public enthusiasm.
TxDOT is ready to lead the charge in developing, constructing, operating, and maintaining this critical project, which is anticipated to complete its environmental clearance process by summer 2026. The Second Causeway is just one aspect of a much larger vision that includes the I-69 Connector and the Outer Parkway project, all of which are set to kick off construction around the same time. Finally, it seems like an interconnected transportation network is gaining traction, and it’s about time!
